Free Entrance Days Announced for U.S. National Parks in 2024

Exploring America’s breathtaking national parks is set to become more accessible in 2024, with six designated fee-free days for visitors. While many national parks offer free entrance throughout the year, some high-demand locations do charge fees and may require advance reservations. The fee-free days, scheduled to align with national holidays and special anniversaries, provide an opportunity for budget-conscious travelers to enjoy the natural wonders of these iconic destinations.

Here are the six free entrance days for 2024:

  1. January 15: Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday
  2. April 20: First day of National Park Week
  3. June 19: Juneteenth National Independence Day
  4. August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
  5. September 28: National Public Lands Day
  6. November 11: Veterans Day

While entrance fees are waived on these designated days, visitors are reminded that fees for camping, boat launches, transportation, and special tours still apply. The National Park Service (NPS) encourages everyone to take advantage of these opportunities to explore both familiar and new parks.

The NPS also offers an annual America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass priced at $80. This pass provides unlimited access to over 2,000 federal recreation areas, including national parks with entrance fees. Popular parks typically requiring entrance fees include Denali National Park & Preserve in Alaska, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, Yosemite National Park in California, Acadia National Park in Maine, and Badlands National Park in South Dakota.
